About Bentonite Waterstop
The Sodium Bentonite is Hydrophilic clay volcanic origin. The BENTONITE WATERSTOP must be kept dry prior to use; exposure to water (rain water,ground water and bleed water) prior to contact with fresh concretewill initiate premature hydration and expansion.
This produce a low colloidal consistency (SOL state ),which renders the Bentonite Waterstop unsuitable for effective waterproofing. If the hydration process of Bentonite Waterstop commences after the placement of the second pour of concrete, Bentonite becomes a colloidal GEL that is a very effective, leak proof waterproofing barrier. This GEL state is produced with the MINIMUM expansive capacity within its capability and at the same time it produces the MAXIMUM expansive force that will be realized during the lifetime of the structure.

hydration initiation. Specially formulated “skin” retards initialization of the hydration process of the Granular 100% Natural Sodium Bentonite.

La BENTONITE sodica naturale è un’argilla di origine vulcanica molto “AVIDA” di acqua.
TUTTI i WATERSTOP BENTONITICI devono restare asciutti fino al getto del calcestruzzo; il contatto occasionale o continuato con acqua ( pioggia,allagamenti accidentali del cantiere, percolazioni ) prima del getto del calcestruzzo avvia l’idratazione e l’espansione prematura. Così un waterstop bentonitico rigonfia molto e si trasforma in un gel poco denso
(chiamato anche SOL,in pratica fango) non idoneo per impermeabilizzare.
Se il processo di idratazione / espansione inizia
dopo il getto del calcestruzzo, un waterstop bentonitico rigonfia
pochissimo ( poiché non c’è spazio ) e si trasforma in GEL molto denso
che va in pressione realizzando una vera
barriera impermeabilizzante. Questo GEL è prodotto
con l’utilizzo minimo della capacità espansiva realizzando
un’alta pressione o spinta espansiva permanente.
ha risolto il problema dell’idratazione/espansione prematura,
superando i limiti che presentano tutti i waterstop bentonitici se vengono a contatto
con acqua prima del getto del calcestruzzo in normali situazioni cantieristiche.
